    wikipedian tag

So I've been busy with loads of project-work this month, but I also had time to invent and playtest a new game. It involves using the vast, super-complicated structure of Wikipedia as a play space, an environment through which one player chases another. I like to think of it as a kind of competitive parkour through the architecture of all human knowledge, but calling it "tag" is a little simpler. It's easy to learn and loads of fun.

I've put the full rule-set on a separate page.

    Fun stuff.

I propose the following multiplayer version: Suppose you have n players, call them 0, 1, 2, ..., (n-1). Each player acts as a hybrid chaser and runner, initially trying to catch the next in the ordering and running from the previous in the ordering (so 2 pursues 3 and is pursued by 1 at the start; 0 is pursued by (n-1) and pursues 1). When player i catches player j, player i takes over chasing whomever player j was chasing. Moves are made in circular order (0 then 1 then 2 then ... then (n-1) then 0). The game proceeds until only one player is left.

The only game detail that requires tweaking in order to make this variation work is to change the possible moves. One possibility is just to give a player a choice to chase or run on his or her turn. Another possibility is to give a choice between: "take two steps but the links must each be single words" and "take one step and the link can be anything" (which are sort of more hybrid-y versions of chasing and running).

Anyway, hopefully this kicks the strategizing up a notch! Cheers.
