strategies of accretion III Been thinking about more examples of linguistic accretion: First up—didn't really care for the album, but I love the cover, which captures the general texture of our age of panic terrors better than many short stories or poems: Related is the Google Newsmap, which I've written about here before but which still impresses me: And then finally, there's Ecotonoha, which aggregates a million banal comments into a gloriously dense biological model: Can something like this be "written?" Can any of these examples be said to be "literary?" They use language—but do they fulfill the functions of literature? What are those functions again?
